Biological Safety Cabinets, Fume Hoods & Flow Hood Testing
Routine performance testing and certification for your laboratory hoods and biosafety cabinets ensure a safe, sterile environment that protects both your team and your critical research materials.
Ensuring laboratory safety compliance
Comprehensive Testing and Certification for Fume and Flow Hoods
Fume Hood Testing
Fume Hood Testing is an important on-going process primarily in the Life Sciences Industry that verifies a laboratory fume hood’s ability to safely contain hazardous fumes through routine performance evaluations, including face velocity measurements (typically 95-130 FPM), airflow pattern visualization (using smoke or other visible vapor), and containment tests (like tracer gas or smoke challenges, ensuring compliance with standards like ANSI Z9.5 and ASHRAE 110 for user safety.
Tests are performed by trained professionals following established standards. Results are recorded on labels affixed to the specific hoods each test period indicating testing company, technician, date of test and its operational status (Pass/Fail). Fume Hoods are certified upon installation, at least annually, or every 3-6 months dependent upon high or low risk use.
Laminar Flow Hood Testing
Laminar Flow Hoods or Clean Benches are used in a wide variety of industries. These benches are used as critical environments to protect “products in process” from contamination. Laminar Flow Hoods are certified upon installation and typically at 6-month intervals thereafter.
Depending on Client requirements, typical Laminar Flow Hood Testing & Certification include Air Velocity Profiling, HEPA Filter Leak or Integrity Testing, Non-Viable Particle Counting, Lighting measurement, Sound Level Measurement dBA, and Induction or Back Streaming Testing.
Tests are performed by trained professionals following established standards. Results are recorded on labels affixed to the specific hoods each test period indicating testing company, technician, date of test and its operational status (Pass/Fail).

Biosafety Cabinet and Glovebox Testing
Primarily used in Life Sciences applications, a Biosafety Cabinet (BSC) is a ventilated enclosure that protects lab workers, the environment, and research materials from biohazardous compounds by using HEPA filters and controlled airflow, creating a sterile workspace for handling a variety of sensitive materials. Gloveboxes vary widely and are generally used to process highly hazardous materials that otherwise cannot be processed in a normal manufacturing environment due to personnel and environmental safety concerns.
Types of Biosafety Cabinetry:
Tests are performed by trained professionals following established standards. Results are recorded on labels affixed to the specific hoods each test period indicating testing company, technician, date of test and its operational status (Pass/Fail). BSCs are certified upon installation with comparison to factory data, annually, and when the cabinets are moved.
